Difference Between a Teacher and a Professor: A Report

A Professor of Philosophy at the University of Houston has explained the difference between high school teachers and university professors. He said, “I am your professor, not your teacher.” He stressed that, “Teachers are evaluated on the basis of learning outcomes, generally as measured by standardized tests. If you don’t learn, then your teacher is blamed.”

He added, “It is not part of my job to make you learn. At university, learning is your job and yours alone. My job is to lead you to the fountain of knowledge. Whether you drink deeply or only gargle is entirely up to you.”

After an in-depth research analysis between the teaching methodologies between a teacher and a professor, Prof. George Luke – Ex. Professor in Massachusetts Institute of Technology has depicted a thin line difference between these two prestigious fraternities in the world. He said about the orthodox methodologies and certain scale of boundaries need to be followed by school teachers, where as Professors can always have the flexibility to probe in depth regarding teaching methodologies, although certain curriculum has been there in universities in United States.

He also added that after adolescence, it is the students who need to grow up mentally to go through their higher education on their own. And a professor in that university can only facilitate the students up to certain limit, beyond that the technical knowledge cannot be spoon fed. The crux has been nurtured and laid by the teachers, but the edifice of knowledge is a must for the higher educationists, which can only be assisted by the professors.
