Team India sealed the series against England 3-0 in Mumbai with one match still left, and despite what the scoreline suggests they have had to work very hard. They lost three tosses out of four, they have made comebacks with the bat and their bowlers had to be highly disciplined to take wickets on good pitches. Kohli felt getting the better of such difficult situations required a bit of selflessness.

Lets quickly see the key milestones achieved by Virat Kohli, Test Captain of Team India, on the occasion of 2239th Test Match played at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai during Fourth Test: India vs England, 8 – 12 December 2016.

1.    Top Score by any India Captain in Test match.

Virat Kohli scored 235 vs England on Dec. 8, 2016. Earlier best was 224 runs scored by former test captain M S Dhoni against Australia on Feb. 22, 2013.

2.    Highest 8th wicket partnership for India.

V Kohli and J Yadav stitched 241 runs against England. Earlier best was 161 runs scored jointly by M Azharuddin and A Kumble against South Africa.

3.    India Captain to score 500+ Test runs in a series.

Virat Kohli already scored 500+ test runs in this current test series against England. As of fourth test played on 8 – 12 December 2016, Captain Virat Kohli scored 640 test runs with one more to go in 2016-17 season. Only former test captain Sunil Gavaskar did it twice – against West Indies (732, ’78-79) and against England (500, ’81-82).

4.    Most Number of Double Centuries in a single calendar year.

4 double centuries = Michael Clarke (AUS) in year 2012. Highest = 329*.
3 double centuries = Don Bradman (AUS) in year 1930. Highest = 334.
3 double centuries = Ricky Ponting (AUS) in year 2003. Highest = 257.
3 double centuries = Brendon McCullum (NZ) in year 2014. Highest = 302.
3 double centuries = Virat Kohli (IND) in year 2016. Highest = 235.

5.    Most Number of Double Centuries in a single calendar year as a Captain.

4 double centuries = Michael Clarke (AUS) in year 2012. Highest = 329*.
3 double centuries = Brendon McCullum (NZ) in year 2014. Highest = 302.
3 double centuries = Virat Kohli (IND) in year 2016. Highest = 235.

6.    Test average of 50+ in all three formats.

Virat Kohli is the only batsman who secured splendid batting average of 50.53 in Test, 52.93 in ODI and 57.13 in T-20 Internationals as of Dec. 12, 2016.

This is only the third time a team batting first has made 400 and then lost by an innings (England twice and Sri Lanka once).
